Hand Lettering

These are the images I gathered from my hand lettering session using the made calligraphy pen. After a few attempts this was the best I had before going into the computer room to scan it into Adobe Illustrator.

Once I had the scanned calligraphy onto the computer, I then moved it into Illustrator to vectorize it for the next session. This is the final image I came out with that was then cut out on the vinyl cutter.

Word Associated with Type

This phrase was made using the font types given to me during the session, I made a few different phrases and decided to stick with this one.

Once I had crated the paper version I then scanned it in and began to do the touch ups before exporting it as a finished file.

Mark Making

With the mark making workshop I was looking at different font styles, as seen in the landscape image. This was my first attempt at using a homemade calligraphy pen, I thought that the pen made very good marks and I have continued to practice with it since. Using the pen that I made in the session with Manny I then went on to try adding patterns around lettering with a fine-liner to see if i could use this technique further on in the project.

Paper Word In The Environment

This task was to structure a word or phrase based around paper in the environment, the work had to be constructed out of the paper alphabet that we made the previous week; however, the word also had to be displayed in the environment that the word was describing.

This was the first test from the studios, using some of the elements around me I was able to construct this image using my alphabet letters and some torn paper from my table.

This is the final piece that I submitted for this task, the letters from my alphabet placed inside my recycling bin on top of torn newspaper to show the recycled environment.

Paper Alphabet

This task involved making the entire alphabet out of the paper design that we made in the previous week. I used the net structure that I had made the previous week and this was the outcome.

Paper Letter

The task was to make a letter out of paper, there were many different methods and techniques people used to make their letter, manipulation of light, torn pieces or simple folds. While experimenting with the paper I noticed I could make a net to help me structure my 3D letter.

This is the first try at making the net for the letter.

Once I had put some time into the design I was able to make a more structured version of the letter, the letter is constructed into a block in which you can see the letter from every angle

Paper Experiments

These are the photos I took from the paper experimentation we did on the first week. The idea of this task was to look at different ways we could work with paper, looking at the shadows, textures and structures that were possible.

These are two examples of the light and structure used in this experiment.
